Dr. Gonghui Wang is an Associate Professor of Research Center on Landslide, DPRI, Kyoto University. He was born in Hubei Province, China. He entered Lanzhou University to study Mechanics and received his B. Eng and M. Sc. in 1988 and 1991, respectively. After working 5 years as a lecturer in the Geology Department of Lanzhou University, he became a research student (1996-1997) and then a graduate student in Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University (1997-2000) with the support of Japanese Government Fellowship. After obtaining his doctor degree, he worked about 3 years as a Researcher in DPRI, Kyoto University (2000-2003). After that he worked as an assistance professor followed by the position of associate professor.

He is mainly studying landslides from the point of view of Geophysics, Geotechnics and Engineering Geology, with special interests on: (1) Mechanism of rapid long runout landslides; (2) Liquefaction phenomena in landslides; (3) Field monitoring of landsliding and modelling; (4) Landslide hazard mapping; (5) Creep behavior of clayey soil; (6) Fast shear behavior of granular material; (7) Formation and stability of landslide dams. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 papers published on journals, books and proceedings of conferences or symposiums.

Besides working as reviewer for more than 20 journals, he is also working as the editor for some journals, such as Journal of Japan Society for Natural Disaster Science (2007-present), Chinese Journal of Engineering Geology (2004-present), Landslides (2003-present), Journal of the Chinese Soil and Water Conservation (2010-present), Engineering Geology (starting from 2016), and Journal of Japanese Landslide Society (starting from 2016).

My major is seismology. I am studying how to image the internal structure of the slopes with seismic waves, how the slope responses during earthquake shaking and monitoring in internal state of slopes using seismic waves.
